Gotta love those nerds

I have great respect for computer nerds, geeks, whatever you call’em. If it wasn’t for them, there’d be no Internet. If there was no Internet, I wouldn’t be trying to learn how to code websites…and loving it. There’s no doubt about it: I’m addicted. And I’m not looking for a 12 step program. I aspire to be a nerd. Gotta love’em.

I spend what some may consider an inordinate amount of time on the computer. Over the years, I’ve come to realize that when I really get into something that holds my interest, I go all out. For a long time, it was art. This time around it’s the computer, and all things related to building Read more...

I have learned a lot these past few months. I actually can look at CSS and tell what’s going on. I can even write it, although I’m still working on the fine tuning. Now Php, that’s a whole other horse. Everyone says it’s easy, and I believe them, but I tell you the syntax, with Read more...

I quit my teaching job in December. I have been on the computer almost night and day since then, studying, practicing, trying to get better at CSS code, graphic arts, and Dreamweaver. I’m making huge progress. I have my learning style down to a science. I read, watch videos, and practice. Then I do it Read more...

This constantly evolving animal cannot be tamed. There are always so many new things to learn, updated coding, and new processes. And then there are the ever looming standards, which means that some of what I learned about HTML years ago is no longer applicable. Change can be good. I’m not resistant to change. My Read more...

Was write a post on my recent forays into managing this blog and a couple of other sites. That was before I crashed this site. *poof* it disappeared. It was already after 12am when this happened. I had planned to come in here, write a quick post, and be in bed by 12:30. (I stayed Read more...

I have spent the better part of the past week going over features and techniques for WordPress and the theme Thesis. I like WordPress. I especially like Thesis. I’m putting together a couple of websites, and I started with Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver’s ok, although, honestly, I have not worked through all that it can do. So Read more...

Sometimes in school a test is given and students do poorly, so teachers apply a curve to allow more to pass. I don’t care for that process, but I could sure use one today for myself. See, I’m trying to put some extra features on this site, i.e. ads, and the instructions are as clear Read more...

Crossing my fingers with the newest upgrade of WP. Now didn’t I read somewhere that 2.9 is lurking on the horizon? I ain’t complaining, though, especially since this upgrade went rather smoothly – cause WP is free. The fact that so many work so hard to keep the program up and running, at no cost Read more...

If I was working as a WordPress installer, I could have racked up some serious overtime pay, but as it is, doing this for myself, I’ve racked up mucho hours and bloodshot eyes. I hate NOT knowing how to work situations that affect me directly. (I’m sitting here trying to remember if I’ve ever put Read more...

Those of you who have visited my site in the past are probably wondering what the heck happened. Well, it was upgrade time, and in spite of my perceived comfort level with websites, I found the whole process tedious and time-consuming. I spent hours uploading, downloading, testing, and got NOTHING! My site still said I Read more...
