Spammy Comments

I’ve heard there’s some automated software that can go around posting arcane comments on people’s sites. The links to those people’s sites are always in the comments. Whatever! Such a waste. Whoever purchases something like that is a real loser in my opinion, because most sites will have filters in place to keep the garbage out. I know some do this thinking that they’ll get back-links and possibly make sales, but why would anyone want to visit a site who’s owner posts a bunch of canned drivel? Meanwhile, someone made a bunch of money selling the software.

This site is not a busy site. No doubt it’d due to the fact that I’m not twittering or face-booking or leaving the site name in my signature. In time, I guess more ‘legitimate’ people with poignant comments will show up. Meanwhile, I’m OK with the status of this site. I created it for the reasons stated – to talk about my experiences on line, at work, with art and computers, etc.

I have a lot of energy, and though it doesn’t necessarily translate into physical activity, it does require that I am doing something at all times – most of the time anyway. So I write, or I build sites, or I visit computer, web, art related forums. I can spend hours doing these things and am quite content doing them.

When I do make comments on someone’s site, I try to keep it germane to the topic and ask thoughtful questions. I know that’s the type of commenter I would like to engage. Which brings out another point…
Even though I take the time to make decent comments, I seldom hear back from the site owner – not through the comment section or email. In my opinion, responding is a way to build good back links. I say something timely on your site, you say something timely on mine, we like the repartee, and the next thing you know, we’re linking to each other’s sites. It’s a win-win because if we’re linking to each other’s sites, and visitors like the content and commenting that’s going on, it stands to reason they’d maybe give consideration to making a purchase if something they need is being offered. They’ll probably visit again, even bookmark the site. I just wish more people would concentrate on substance instead of racking up numbers that do nothing for them.
