I’ve Got a Monkey On My Back

I’m having way too much from with Gimp. Gimp is the graphic software that works like Photoshop. And it’s free!

I can’t stay off the computer. I scour the internet for Gimp tutorials. I spend hours working through them, creating, and recreating. Just what I needed – another habit. Well, at least this is a good habit. Now whether this habit ruins my eyes and my already wimpy social life remains to be seen. I feel a little guilty when the sun is shining, and I know I should be outside doing something, anything. If it was cold, I could feel perfectly justified. Actually, cold or warm, I do feel justified. I’m not neglecting anyone, especially myself. I primp and powder everyday. Goodness knows I eat my meals, even if they are at the computer. I tell myself that I’ll do something else, visit somebody, go to the library.

Of course, I have to check my email first, and then, well, since the computer is on, why not check out some artwork on the net. And then it’s on. Several hours later, I’m still fooling around with Gimp.

Anyway, there’s so much to learn. In the beginning, I could barely remember how to use more than two or three tools. However, I’ve been putting in so many hours that I’m really catching on. I smile now when I automatically click the right button, or learn a new technique. I’m saving more of my work as opposed to trashing it. One day I’ll even replace that lone graphic (created by moi), and put something snazzier up.

Man, and Gimp is free. Woo hoo. I can’t remember the last time I got something free that felt so good. (naw, that wasn’t free…there’s a price for everything – you know that…get your mind out of the gutter).

As I search for my ‘voice’ on this blog, I may find myself turning it into a Gimp site, or a partial one anyway. Another one? Yeah, another one. It makes me happy.
